From September 3rd, Phantom of the Opera will have new actors in the roles of The Phantom, Raoul, Carlotta and Christine.
Headlining the cast change is Marcus Lovett, who will take the lead role of the Phantom. He is replacing Peter Joback. Lovett has been in the role on Broadway, and now he brings his experience to the West End. Lovett has also been in the Broadway production of Les Miserables. In the West End he originated the role of The Man in Whistle Down the Wind, at the Aldwych Theatre. He also released a solo album in 2008, ‘Marcus Lovett, The Give Moment’.
Simon Thomas, whose most recent role was as Warner in Legally Blonde, will be taking over from Killian Donnelly as Raoul. Other credits include the lead in Tarzan in Hamburg, and the Prince in Rapunzel at the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park.
Lara Martins is replacing Wendy Ferguson as Carlotta, the opera singer with the original solo Think of Me. Martins is a world renowned Soprano opera singer. Recent parts include Sofia in Il Signor Bruschino by Rossini for the Opéra National de Bordeaux and Blondchen in Entfürung aus dem Serail for Opera de Marseille.
Finally, Anna O’Byrne is replacing Sofia Escobar as Christine at certain performances only. Anna is no stranger to the role. She has most recently played Christine in the Australian premiere of Love Never Dies, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sequel to Phantom of the Opera. Anna made her debut professional role as Christine in the Australian production of Phantom of the Opera, initially as an understudy, and then as a lead. She also created the role in the film. Sofia Ecobar will continue as Christine in most performances.
