Children in Need is coming up in November. The BBC has launched Pop Goes The Musical 2012, which this year includes Blue, Alexandra Burke and Geri Halliwell. This Autumn, they will sing in West End shows for one special performance.
Alexandra Burke – Les Miserables
On Tuesday 18th September, X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke will perform a hit from the longest running West End show, Les Miserables – the story of Jean Valjean’s struggle during the French Revolution.
Geri Haliwell – Singin’ in the Rain
Queen of Girl Power, Geri Haliwell, has just rocked the stadium at the Olympic closing ceremony. On Thursday 25th October she will join the cast of Singin’ In The Rain. The Viva Forever! musical, with her own Spice Girls songs, will also be on in the West End this autumn.
Stooshe and Macy Gray – Thriller – Live
Two acts, new pop sensation Stooshe, and soul singer Macy Gray, will tread the boards in the Michael Jackson show Thriller – Live. They will join the cast on Thursday 15th November.
Blue – Jersey Boys
Finally, the boy band Blue will become the Four Seasons in the Jersey Boys musical, a hit on Broadway and here in the West End. They will put on the famous red jackets of the Jersey Boys on Thursday 11th October.
The special price top seat tickets will be £80, and half the money will go to Children in Need.
This is the second year that Children in Need have put celebs into West End shows with Pop Goes The Musical. Last year four top pop acts performed hit songs in other London musicals.
Geri Haliwell’s fellow Spice girl Mel C, appeared in the Queen musical, We Will Rock You, to sing ‘We Are The Champions’. This was not the first time she had starred in a West End show, she was Mrs Johnstone in Blood Brothers in 2009 and will be in the upcoming tour of Jesus Christ Superstar along with Chris Moyles. X-Factor winner Stacey Soloman sang ‘For Good’ in Wicked, Peter Andre sang ‘Unchained Melody’ in Ghost, and The Sugar Babes sang the title track of the musical Mamma Mia!
We do not yet know which songs this year’s popsters will sing. Anyone got any thoughts on what they would like to see these stars singing?
